“Inspired by a photo of a tiled wall piece I embarked on a felting project that challenged my design and engineering skills – way beyond what I expected.
I planned the piece, drawing the layout, measuring, calculating the shrinkage of the central red nuno felted piece, but as I worked on it, the piece asked for changes.
I wanted to create contrast between the organic red felt piece with the contained straight lines that contains - but not quite - the unruly centre. I had to come up with ways to attach and to add pieces, like the face in the circle and the metal strip on the top and I needed to transform each component to look and feel unique. In the end the piece expresses my own emotional state in these tumultuous times.”
42x26 cm, nuno felt, repurposed silk ties, wood and metal.
