Next Step Rigid Heddle - Colour-and-Weave Gamp

What is Colour-and-Weave? What is a Gamp?

When I first started weaving these were big questions I had. Being part of meetings where experienced weavers easily use the language of the loom to converse and me being totally unable to follow the conversation. How embarrassing!

So, for those who are ready to run to the internet and google, here you go:

Colour-and-Weave: is a weaving technique that uses colour order to create intricate patterns.

Gamp: is a woven cloth that displays a variety of colours, threading, and weave structures. It is a tool used to study how colour and weave structures interact.

By using colour-and-weave to create a gamp we get a beautiful piece of cloth that may be more useful than one originally planned.

At the workshop Sunday March 23rd, we will create a colour-and-weave gamp. Using 8/2 Tencel, a provided draft, participants will become more proficient at reading a draft, threading/sleying the heddle as directed by the draft, and following the weft sequence to complete their own piece of art. Participants will be amazed at what happens when certain colours are placed in key positions in our weaving.
