Display Case Opportunities

Thanks to all the contributors to our Canadian theme. It looked a bit scarce a week ago, but many of you came through, rose to the challenge and found items in red, white or red and white. Catherine and I arranged the display case this morning and you can see the photos below or see it for yourself when you come to the RCA next.

Please think ahead to our next theme for the summer. Let me know your ideas and consider being a guest curator. There are always many hands to help!

In keeping with our current Zeitgeist, we would like to mount a red and white show in our Guild Showcase.

It doesn't have to be a maple leaf, but look around and find anything that is fibre related and is also red and white. Maybe you have a toque or scarf, some homespun yarn, maybe some felted slippers or a knitted sweater. Maybe you made it yourself, bought it from another artisan or maybe you decide to quickly make a patriotic piece of fibre art before our deadline -- if it's red, white or red and white, it qualifies!

Please drop off your red and white fibre piece at the Guild studio before March 31st. Add a pin or a flag or any other fitting prop for good measure. Questions and volunteers to install the show are welcome to contact Alice at apallett@shaw.ca . Thank you!

Just like the festive season, our display term at city hall has come and gone. Thanks to Flannery and her students we have an interesting exhibit in our display case upstairs.

The Rotary Centre has offered their windows to us from the end of January into March with a likely extension into April and May. With their proximity to the ticket desk, music venue, restaurant and theatre these three windows have great exposure. We are planning to showcase toques, hats and scarves. It is a "back to basics in a wonderful way" display that will impress with the variety and numbers we will show within these categories.

We are getting close to our September challenge to create a stunning, comprehensive display of our Guild’s best works at City Hall.  We have their display case from October to the end of December and Installation Day has been moved to September 25 in the afternoon.

The display will advertise our seasonal Sale, promote the Guild and upcoming workshops. We are looking for items that are of high quality and may be your personal pieces created by yourself or a fellow Guild member.  They do not need to be new pieces. They can be large or small. The more items we get, the easier it will be to create a display that has unity and variety and represents all our activities.
