Workshop Details

This one-day workshop course is an introduction to the backstrap loom and to weaving in general. It is especially relevant to folks who are interested in weaving and who are intrigued by the history of bandweaving, wary of investing in the equipment needed, want to play with colour, or have a more portable craft. Backstrap weave is a technique developed in many different cultures to weave think bands to wider widths of cloth. Students will learn how to warp and weave a simple band in the colours of their choice and will receive instructions for making their own rigid heddles. No experience required! All materials will be supplied by the instructor. Bands woven on this type of loom can be used for belts, purse straps, keychain wristlet, or lanyard. Students have the option to keep their band weaving kit for $15 (includes heddle, clips, threader and materials for additional bands), paid to instructor on the day. Date: April 18 Time: 10-3pm Location: Studio 204,, Rotary Centre For The Arts Guild Members use Coupon Code FIBREART2021 at checkout for $10 off this workshop.
