Workshop Details
Slow stitching is a mindful and creative hand-stitching practice that emphasizes the process and experience of stitching over achieving a specific end result. It's a form of embroidery that prioritizes being present in the moment, appreciating the materials, and finding joy in the repetitive and calming nature of stitching. This workshop will allow you to explore different stitches, different stitch fibres and the use of embellishments on your work. Slow stitching is a great technique to use for mending clothing and using up small scraps of fabric. There is a $5 materials fee payable to the instructor. All the materials will be provided. This will include the use of plant and acid dyed silk floss, linen threads, commercial embroidery floss (dmc) ,woolen embroidery floss, beads, trinkets and fabric scraps. The basis fabric for the stitching will be 100% wool felt. Beginners are welcome as basic embroidery stitches will be explained. Date: July 26 Time: 10-2 Location: Studio 204 at the RCA $5 materials fee to instructor on the day Guild Members use Coupon Code FIBREART2021 at checkout for $10 off this workshop. Instructor Bio Judith Mueller is a visual and fibre artist with a BFA from UBCO. She has been exploring colour and texture for many years and uses many disciplines in her work. Her journey has taken her from plant dyes to commerical dyes on all the fibres and fabrics she can find. She spent many years felting and nuno-felting and weaves that into her art pieces. Slow stitching is a way, for her, to combine her many loves in to a visual image. Her love of abstract stitich comes from her many years of painting.
