Workshop Details

In this workshop, you will learn how to dye the protein fibres wool and silk with natural dye materials. Participants will learn to mordant the fibre, which is the preparation of the fibre to accept the dye and use 5 different dye plants to create colour. You will have the opportunity to dye 1 skein of wool and 1 skein of silk in each dye bath. This way you will see how each fibre accepts the dye differently. This workshop is designed to show you the basics of natural dying and start building your dye reference library. Natural dyes are so mesmerizing because there are so many variables that influence the final colour. Dye stuffs you will experiment with: Tansy, Madder, Onion skin, Carrot tops and Cochenille Each participants will be provided with 5 mini skeins of wool and 5 mini skeins of silk.
